ScanSource has announced the appointment of Marcus Ollenbuttel to SVP of digital distribution for its business in Europe.
Ollenbuttel's appointment as boss of the US VAD's European cloud business comes just days after CEO Mike Baur told investors that it is closing in on a sale for its $623m-revenue non-US hardware business.
Baur first told CPI that it was abandoning the European hardware market in September, saying his strategy was to base ScanSource's European business on software and services.
ScanSource's digital business encompass its cloud services business and the intY CASCADE platform that it acquired last year.
Ollenbuttel is an inside hire, having joined ScanSource in 2013 as a team leader for the UK. He also led merchandising for ScanSource's POS and Barcode segment in Europe.
Prior to this promotion, Ollenbuttel ran the distributor's UK sales operation.
"Marcus brings a great deal of experience with ScanSource and in the industry to this position," said CRO, John Eldh.
"During his time at ScanSource, he has also developed invaluable relationships with our partners and suppliers, as well as a keen understanding of the changing demands of the market. Marcus will be an excellent leader as we continue to grow our digital distribution business in Europe."
