The EMEA external storage systems market posted record growth in Q4 FY2018, driven in part by the growth in flash-powered arrays, according to IDC analysis.
Sales hit $2.35bn, up 16.4 per cent year on year.
The all-flash-array (AFA) market captured 37 per cent of the storage market in Q4 and "drove up the whole market".
They are set to overtake hybrid arrays (HFAs) as the most popular system.
However, growth in AFAs came at the expense of hard drive-only arrays (HDD), which remain mostly confined to secondary workloads.
Sales of HDD-only arrays slumped 12.8 per cent for the quarter.
IDC research manager for European storage and datacentre Silvia Cosso said that the market as a whole has demonstrated adaptability in the face of widespread uncertainty.
"Storage spending has so far demonstrated great resilience in the face of political and economic instability hitting the region, with digital transformation-led investments progressing unscathed," he said.
"Companies are updating their datacentres for the new wave of IT transformation coming from AI workloads and edge-to-core-to-cloud integration, adopting emerging technologies such as NAFA, or NVME-AFA, arrays to take advantage of the great workload consolidation such arrays enable."
Regionally, Western Europe grew by 10.1 per cent, central and Eastern European was up 20.5 per cent, while the Middle East and Africa dropped 4.2 per cent year on year.
"The external storage market in CEMA is strongly supported by refresh cycles in CEE and large-scale digital projects run by governments across MEA," IDC's storage systems CEMA research manager, Marina Kostova, said.
"The boost also comes from vendors expanding their presence in the region and by the entrance of hyperscalers that did not have datacentres in the region until now."
