Aptum Technologies' CEO has told CPI that she expects demand for multi-cloud services to outlast the COVID-19 pandemic even as some end-user employees regain their ability to manage infrastructure on-premise.
In CPI's Zoom In series, Susan Bowen said that the Canadian managed hosting and cloud services provider has seen an upswing in customers considering asking for help this year as a result of COVID-19.
"Business' understanding of IT has changed for good," she said.
"I think for some companies, outsourcing and using other companies has become more interesting. We've seen an increase in demand for colocation services from people wanting to move their infrastructure very quickly into datacentres that are hosting retail for instance.
"This is an interesting shift because historically people have been quite keen to keep and maintain their own base centres for a while. Now we're starting to see that change.
"They rely on us to keep their businesses running, so there's a lot to deal with right now."
Headquartered in Toronto, Aptum divested from Cogeco Peer 1 last year.
Its core datacentre business unit has seen disaster recovery as a service be particularly popular in Europe in recent months.
"We've seen people have put a real emphasis on disaster recovery services.
"We've also seen high demand around PCI (Payment Card Industry) services. And keeping with the financial sector there, we have a customer like UK MSP Claremont who provides Oracle SaaS solutions to the SMB market, and now more and more organisations are looking towards Oracle SAP services.
"They need partners like Claremont, and they need partners like Aptum Technologies to host those complex managed offerings."
She added: "As we move out of lockdown with lots more distributed workforce and distributed management, it means SD-WAN is going to become a lot more interesting to people."
